might be picking up the bass for the first time?

so i have a drum kit i never touch, mostly because its loud and my dad
is all against it. my friend offered me $100 and a squier bass for my
5 piece kit. i was wondering if anyone could give me pointers on how
to play the bass, and things like that. i want to play rock,
alternative, maybe metal on it. i have played guitar but very little,
and even less bass before this, so i am somewhat familiar with it.
just looking for pointers and stuff
